A little back story on these little chairs:

The first chair ring was inspired by a time I was small. A time before my feet could reach the floor when sitting in chairs like these. In childhood, I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents in their cottage in a small holler in Hot Springs, NC. Sometimes my grandma and I would drive over the little creek between her property and the dirt road that ran alongside the train tracks to fill baskets at a “pick-your-own” farm up the road. That lead to long days of sitting in a little rush chair on her porch, snapping, shucking and chopping into pots so she could can it all for future comforts. While my Nana and Great Aunt Jane would talk about grown up stuff —I would zone out and daydream making creatures out of the kudzu. My hands were really sensitive and not strong at all back then, I couldn’t work nearly as fast as them and I got freaked out if I found a worm in an ear of corn, but I loved being a part of it all. Anyway, I can’t help but appreciate how our origin stories and experiences inform everything we are and do now. The synchronicities, imagery, memories and dreams that fold into our daily lives. I’m so grateful for the creative, hardworking and gentle hands that came before me and for what my own hands have been able to do. For me, these rings symbolize how precious and fleeting life can be -among other things.

All that said, I don’t want to ascribe any meaning to these rings. I am just the conduit and they simply had to exist. They are for your stories, you get to make them mean something and I would love to hear all about it! <3
